I recently heard this anecdote from a friend of mine living in Jerusalem:
Rav Avrohom Yehoshua Soloveitchick ZGZ once remarked to להבדיל בין חיים לחיים the late great Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel OBM "Why don't you just erect a roof over the entire neighborhood of Bais Yisroel and declare the whole thing Yeshivas Mir" to which the latter responded: אמן !"
בא המבדיל והעמידן על אחת
"Those who cannot tolerate Havdala cannot appreciate Qedusha"

I heard the story directly from Maran Rav Noson Tzvi Finkel zt"l himself and in his version, he responded to rav AJ by saying "amen" not "halevay" but it's the same idea. And in the Rosh Yeshiva's telling of the story, Rav AJ said the entire Bais Yisroel, not Geulah.
There are a few other versions of this story out there also. In one version, Rav AJ met a yeshiva bachur at kikar shabbos who asked him for directions to the Mir and Rav AJ said that he should just wait there, the Mir will be there eventually (or in a few hours). That version is apocrphyal.
I will correct my post.
