Old Masthead Quotes HereHere is a fuller quote:
My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time for my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me. ... That is the way all men should live, and then all would be equally brave.
Now a Yiddisha Kopf might amend the last sentence to read and then all would be equally G-d-fearing/ pure. בכל עת יהיו בגדיך לבנים ושמן על ראשך אל יחסר
Question: Is this an example of חכמה בגויים תאמין or of תורה בגויים אל תאמין??? Hmmm???
A Yiddisha Kopf might also respond to the opening (new masthead) line: IOW not safe at all. As I once heard an old Gerrer Khusid say "Every Khusid considers his bed his worst enemy"
בא המבדיל והעמידן על אחת
"Those who cannot tolerate Havdala cannot appreciate Qedusha"
